Health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by the parasite. Infection can occur by consuming contaminated food or water.

Symptoms: Frequent, watery diarrhea that typically begins about one week after exposure.

Treatment: Cyclosporiasis can be treated with antibiotics. If you develop sudden gastrointestinal illness, contact your health care provider.

Reduce Your Risk: Wash fresh produce thoroughly, practice good hand hygiene and cook foods when appropriate.
