Zachary Archbold

Photo of Zachary Archbold - MSU Medical Student. Zach is from Midland, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Cell biology, Molecular biology, and Biomedical Sciences from Saginaw Valley State University. Prior to medical school, he worked as a care assistant in the Midland hospital’s medical intensive care unit, and as a care assistant in an assisted living home. At MSU-CHM he is part of the Leadership in Rural Medicine certificate program. He enjoys volunteering and is an Eagle Scout. In his free time, Zach enjoys astrophotography, stargazing, and reading philosophy.

Trinity Bauer-Wojnar

Trinity is from Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She earned her BS in Cognitive/Behavioral Neuroscience and BA in Theology from Loyola University Chicago. During undergraduate, she worked as a hospice caregiver and adult foster care worker, and performed research related to infant cognitive development. Since starting medical school, she has volunteered with local hospice patients and a rehabilitation organization and served in leadership roles on the Dean’s Student Advisory Committee, Student Council, the Surgery Interest Group, and Association of Women Surgeons. Outside medicine, Trinity enjoys running, knitting/crocheting, and spending time with her friends/family and dog.

Jessie Burns

Jessie Burns is from Grand Rapids, MI. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Chemistry from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. While there, Jessie played field hockey, worked in a group home for adults with intellectual disabilities, and was a medical assistant at UPMC Pulmonary Partners. Throughout medical school, she has served as the Vice President of the Rural Health Interest Group, as a Student Leader of CMDA, and as a volunteer with the Adaptive Ski Association of West Michigan. Currently, Jessie’s specialty interests include general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology, but they are continuing to evolve. In her free time, Jessie enjoys baking, running and lifting weights, playing ice hockey, spending time with her two cats, and skiing or hiking with her husband.

Celeste Ely

Photo of Celeste Ely - MSU Medical Student. Celeste is from Aromas, California, a small town in the hills of California’s central coast. She attended the University of San Diego, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Before medical school, Celeste worked as a scribe for San Ysidro Health, a non-profit community health organization serving patients throughout San Diego County. Throughout medical school she has been in the Leadership in Rural Medicine program, which has increased her passion to return to a medically underserved rural community to provide care. She is interested in multiple pediatric and adult internal medicine subspecialties and is looking forward to refining her goals through clinical experience. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, doing medical illustration, and taking her dog on bird watching hikes.

Taryn Hayes

Photo of Taryn Hayes - MSU Medical Student. Taryn is from Potterville, Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and her Master of Science in Physiology at the University of Michigan. She worked as a yoga instructor and as a therapist for children with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis prior to start medical school. During her time at MSU CHM, Taryn served on the board for CHM Serve, a pharmacy assistance program at Care Free Medical in Lansing, Michigan. Additionally, she was the President of Michigan's Hometown Healers, a mentorship program dedicated to supporting rural high school girls interested in pursuing medical professions. She also had notable involvement as the Event Coordinator for the Rural Health Interest Group and the President of Resource Navigation for the East Lansing chapter of First Generation in Medicine. Currently, Taryn is involved in a handful of research projects and works as a peer tutor through MSU CHM. In her free time, Taryn enjoys reading, listening to true crime podcasts, and spending time with her cats, Laptop and Lord Purrquad.

Klara Kamposh

Photo of Klara Kamposh - MSU Medical Student. Klara grew up in Southeast Michigan. She went to the University of Michigan for her undergraduate studies where she earned a B.S. in Neuroscience. At MSU CHM, she was president of the East Lansing chapter of the First Gen in Med student organization and the Chaldean American Medical Student Association. Klara loves kids and enjoyed volunteering with the Todd Martin Youth Leadership program in Lansing, where she helped tutor young students. She is currently interested in Pediatric subspecialties and is looking forward to advocating for children as they navigate their healthcare journey. Outside of school, Klara's hobbies include gymnastics, paddle boarding, and spending time with her family.

Deondra Montgomery

Deondra is from Southern California. She obtained her BSc in Neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She worked in clinical research which included neuro-oncology, hematology/oncology, and pediatric leukemia/lymphoma for a number of years before matriculating to medical school. Deondra is interested in neurosurgery, oncology, and pediatrics. Her research interests include neurosurgery and underserved communities. She is actively involved with the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), and National Association of Medical Spanish (NAMS) at the national and regional levels. As a first-generation daughter of immigrants, she is passionate about mentorship; diversity, equity, and inclusion; health equity; and serving underserved communities. Outside of school, Deondra enjoys hiking, salsa/bachata dancing, boxing, weightlifting, running, solo-traveling, and painting.

Mary Pufahl

Photo of Mary Pufahl - MSU Medical Student. Mary is from Hemlock, Michigan. She attended Central Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Spanish. Before medical school, Mary worked as a Migrant Program Assistant for Great Lakes Bay Health Centers' Migrant Mobile Clinic, and as a neurology Medical Assistant at Memorial Healthcare. During her time at medical school, Mary has served as the President of SpartanArt, clinic liaison for Grand Rapids Street Medicine, and on the board of the Rural Health Interest Group. She is currently exploring which specialty she would like to pursue, but looks forward to working with rural and underserved populations. In her free time, Mary enjoys hiking, puzzles, reading, and spending time with her dog.

Emma Rondeau

Photo of Emma Rondeau - MSU Medical Student. Emma is from Skandia, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-physiology from Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Throughout undergrad, Emma worked as a medical assistant and was involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters. During her time at MSU-CHM, Emma has been a volunteer for McLaren Hospice and has been involved in Michigan's Hometown Healers. She enjoys reading and spending time with her husband, family, friends, and two dogs.

Mackenna Starr

Mackenna is from Vestal, NY. She attended Bowling Green State University for her bachelor's degree in microbiology. Prior to medical school, she was an EMT for 5 years and spent many hours in the lab studying bacteriophage. Her specialty interest is emergency medicine - particularly pediatric EM - and she is passionate about the practice of inclusive medicine and gender affirming care. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two fluffy cats Mo and Fiona, reading, hiking, crafting, all kinds of music, watching the Red Wings, and golfing!

Nicholas Vath

Nick is from Valley Springs, California. After high school he joined the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and served for 6 years. Following his service, he went to California State University-Sacramento, where he graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry. At MSU CHM, he was the co-president of the East Lansing Neurology Interest group. Nick is very eager to learn more about all of the various specialties in medicine. Outside of medicine, he enjoys training in Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, and kickboxing. He also enjoys spending time with his family.
