The Medical Surgical Unit at MyMichigan Medical Center Gladwin is a part of a twenty-five-bed critical access facility. Our hospital is about thirty-five miles from Midland and serves a vast rural community. We might be small, but we are mighty. We are leaders in quality and patient safety and were voted to be one of the top 100 critical access hospitals in the country.

Our hospital is small and has a significant family-like quality. The Medical Surgical Unit has a low turnover rate, with many staff members that have worked here for over twenty years. Our nurses enjoy a consistent schedule with two nurses per shift, a secretary during the day, and a patient care tech three days a week if census permits.

All of our patients enjoy a private room and bathroom. The floor has a bariatric room with a shower and two negative air pressure rooms available. Our nurses take great pride in the care they provide for patients across the spectrum. This care is especially observed with our end of life patients. For these patients our staff can provide a special blanket for the patient, refreshments, and soothing music for them and their loved ones. If no family is available, a staff member remains at the bedside until the patient has passed. Patient privacy and dignity are the utmost importance to our staff. Excellent care is essential to our small community, of which

Our leadership supports individual growth through educational opportunities. Educational opportunities can include Medical-Surgical certification and continuing education. All staff is encouraged to be involved with shared governance and other system nursing councils.

Shift supervisors and a single Campus Manager support the team. Although they are overseeing the whole facility, staff can rest assured they are available when in need. This support can be just a listening ear, words of encouragement, or to put on scrubs and join us when times are tough.
