The Medical Surgical Unit is a special unit because you always have to be on your toes. Due to this unit being fast paced, some days we can be getting multiple discharges at the same time and filling those beds with admissions as soon as the bed is available. All staff have to work as a team to ensure that the unit is successful.
Engagement opportunities include unit practice council, falls committee, sepsis committee, hand hygiene monitoring, preceptor program, system nursing councils, and skills days.
Nurses typically receive approximately 6-8 weeks of orientation in combination with pathway classes.
