Safety Day

In partnership with AAA of Michigan, the Community Outreach Committee hosts a Safety Day offering free bike helmets for kids and providing information on boater safety, fire safety and vehicle safety. This event is made available with support of the Alpena City Police, Alpena City and Township Fire Departments, Coast Guard Auxiliary, AAA of Michigan and the MyMichigan Health Trauma program.

Special Safe Sitter Class

Working with the Boys & Girls Club of Alpena, the Community Outreach Committee hosts a special session of the Safe Sitter program. Youth from the ages of 11 – 13 are identified by the Boys & Girls Club to attend the day-long class. Certified instructors teach the students about what to do in emergency situations if you are baby sitting or supervising siblings. Life and safety skills include how to handle emergencies, how to handle choking, rescue breathing and CPR. Successful completion of the class includes a Safe Sitter certification.
