Our History
MyMichigan Health is a partnership of health providers, services and facilities in the heart of Michigan. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt health system affiliated with the University of Michigan Health. As a non-profit, all excess revenues go back into providing care, upgrading services, fairly compensating employees and creating a supportive work environment. The quality of its medical facilities and campuses have been enhanced by the generosity of local foundations and donors.
The health system traces its history back to 1984 with an affiliation between what was then Midland Hospital Center and Clare Osteopathic Hospital. Since then, the health system has grown to serve 26 counties and features two tertiary hospitals in Midland and Saginaw, as well as Medical Centers in Alma, Alpena, Clare, Gladwin, Mt. Pleasant, Sault Ste. Marie, Standish, Tawas, Towne Centre and West Branch. MyMichigan Health provides a full continuum of care across a wide array of settings, including urgent care centers, home health, virtual care, as well as medical offices. Their expertise spans 85 specialties and subspecialties, including behavioral health, cardiology, primary care, hematology/oncology, neurosciences, orthopedics, women and children services, and vascular surgery among others.
MyMichigan Health, along with the history of its flagship location, MyMichigan Medical Center Midland, was chronicled in 1994 by Midland author Dorothy Langdon Yates in the book A Journey of Caring. The book is available in local libraries.
