The MidMichigan Health volunteers in Alpena have a long history of supporting important projects at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena and once again they offer their support. The volunteers have formally committed $250,000 to fund the future Family Waiting Room to be located in the Medical Center’s new patient tower currently under construction.
Amanda Timm, volunteers services manager, indicated, “We are proud and excited to be a part of this project. We have a wonderful group of volunteers that are committed to assisting in service roles such as lobby greeters, surgical lounge aides and escorts, and other positions. We also have volunteers who raise funds through The Gift Corner, our annual Koeze Nut Sale, or other vendor events at the Medical Center. This is an excellent project for those funds; this project will have such an important impact on our community.”
The three-story patient tower project, which broke ground in June 2020, will feature 60 new private patient rooms, including eight intensive care unit beds, eight labor and delivery rooms, and 44 medical/surgical beds. The new tower will provide an all new surgical service unit including 19 private prep and recovery rooms, as well as five new operating rooms.
According to Ann Diamond, development director for MidMichigan Health Foundation in Alpena, “We are once again honored and in awe of the work of the volunteers. Every major project we embark upon, our volunteer services stand right next to our leadership and employees offering their assistance. We are so appreciative of their support.”
In the past, the volunteers have funded advanced medical equipment, remodeling projects, the Cancer Center build, and most recently, the Emergency Department renovation. With this pledge, the volunteers will have committed more than $2 million to the Medical Center in Alpena.
Construction on the tower is well underway with notable progress seen from Chisholm Street. Developments include completion of the structural steel portion of the building and floorings have been poured. Masons will be on site in the near future to begin the masonary brick and stone work of the structure.
