Leader in Emergency Medicine Receives 5-Star National Recognition for Quality of Care

A leader in emergency medicine, MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant has been recognized as a 5-Star Performer by national health care research leader Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC). The honor acknowledges inpatient facilities and emergency departments scoring in the top 10 percent for overall quality of care based on the PRC national client database for 2021. MyMichigan’s central region Medical Center Emergency Departments in Alma and Clare also received the 5-Star Performer Award.

“We operate one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the area with a dedicated team of compassionate physicians and nurses who specialize in emergency medicine at each location,” said Marita Hattem-Schiffman, president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare and Mt. Pleasant. “In an emergency, every second counts. As the leader in health care for our region, our patients are at the center of all that we do. They can depend on us to receive expert, timely and attentive care close to home.”

The Emergency Department in Mt. Pleasant provides emergency care for adult and pediatric patients 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Adjacent to the Medical Center’s Observation Unit for those requiring further observation to stay up to 24 hours, the Emergency Department is fully-equipped to provide care for all common emergency conditions, including heart attack, stroke and trauma. A telemedicine program enables patients to receive consultations from neurologists and other specialists at the University of Michigan, for faster decision-making during stroke planning and treatment.

The PRC Excellence in Healthcare Awards recognize organizations and individuals who achieve excellence throughout the year by improving patient experiences, health care employee engagement and/or physician alignment based on surveys of their patients.

“It is an honor to recognize MyMichigan Health with these Excellence in Healthcare Awards for their deserving work,” said Joe M. Inguanzo, Ph.D., president and CEO of PRC. “It takes true dedication and determination to achieve this level of excellence in health care and MyMichigan has shown their commitment to making their hospital a better place to work, a better place to practice medicine and a better place for patients to be treated.”
