Bernie Miele (7th from the right), madam president, Atlanta Thunder Bay Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie #4077, is surrounded by fellow auxiliary members after a recent meeting where it was decided that they would donate the proceeds from their Save the Ta-Tas events to breast health initiatives at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

MyMichigan Health Foundation was the recent recipient of a donation from the Atlanta Thunder Bay Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie #4077 supporting breast health services at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

“We like to keep our support local and giving support, specifically to breast health services at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, was the perfect choice for our donation,” said Ladies Auxiliary Madam President Bernie Miele. “We hope our donation will be used to benefit breast cancer patients that need financial assistance with gas cards, snacks or travel expenses that they would typically have to pay for out-of-pocket.”

MyMichigan Michigan Medical Center Alpena has two funds that support breast health initiatives. These include the Breast Health Fund and the Susan’s Wish Fund. Together, these funds assist with breast cancer screening, diagnostic testing, educational services, equipment and patient care items. This includes access for eligible individuals to receive financial assistance with screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasound, post breast cancer surgery support materials transportation and travel expenses, prescription expenses as well as other miscellaneous needs.

“Donations like this benefit our patients tremendously,” said Ann Diamond, director of fund development, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “We have breast health patients coming to our Medical Center from all over Northeast Michigan and I know they are thankful to have these resources to assist them. We can’t thank the Atlanta Eagles Ladies Auxiliary enough for this thoughtful donation.”

“The Auxiliary originally scheduled a ‘Save the Ta-Tas’ dinner fundraiser but it was cancelled due to COVID,” concluded Miele. “We hope to host the dinner sometime this fall.”
