Nationally Recognized, Medical Center Named a Top 20 Rural and Community Hospital

MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena has been named one of the 2022 Top 20 Rural and Community Hospitals in the United States by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). This award comes as part of an evaluation by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The hospitals are identified using the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, the most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural PPS hospital performance.

Regarded as one of the industry’s most significant designations of performance excellence, the determining factors for the top 20 rural and community hospitals are based on eight indices: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, and financial efficiency.

“On behalf of our leadership team at MyMichigan here in Alpena, we are so very proud of the efforts of our health care providers and staff that have contributed to our hospital achieving a distinguished recognition such as this,” said Chuck Sherwin, president, MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. “This achievement confirms our commitment to our patients, families and community. Our pledge is to continue to enhance the patient and family experience by providing the highest quality care, close to home, to the residents of Alpena and northeast Michigan.”

MyMichigan will be recognized in May during NRHA’s Rural Hospital Innovation Summit in Albuquerque, N.M. The summit will be held just a few weeks after the opening of the new patient tower in Alpena.

“This spring, we will have so much to celebrate with the acceptance of this award and the opening of the new tower,” said Sherwin. “To see this project go from discussions, to blue print, to structure and finishing touches has been such an exciting time for all us here at the Medical Center and for our community.”
