Medical Center in Clare Achieves Stroke Ready Certification

Seal that says Stroke Ready Certification

MyMichigan Medical Center Clare has achieved Stroke Ready certification through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for the services of emergency stroke care. ACHC is a nonprofit organization that has stood as a symbol of quality and excellence since 1986.

“Our team is so proud of achieving this certification which highlights our dedication to addressing strokes and meeting the needs of the community,” stated Marita Hattem-Schiffman, F.A.C.H.E, C.P.M.S.M., president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare, Mt. Pleasant. “It’s critically important that rural communities have access to life-saving care in a crisis like a stroke. That’s why we strive for these certifications. We feel privileged to be recognized for this significant accomplishment, highlighting our commitment to providing high-quality and technologically advanced health care to those we serve in Clare County and beyond.”

Certification is a process through which health care organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. Certification by ACHC reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.

According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the number two cause of death worldwide and is a leading cause of disability. Because stroke, or “brain attacks,” affect blood flow to the brain, rapid and effective treatment can save lives and offer the best chance of limiting the extent of long-term damage.

When a higher level of care is needed, MyMichigan Health has Neuroscience Centers of Excellence in Midland and Saginaw that support advanced medical treatment when patients need it most including comprehensive stroke care. The highly experienced medical team includes physicians and surgeons with expertise in complex cerebrovascular, skull base, and spine deformity treatments. Advanced technology includes systems for minimally invasive brain surgery and treating spinal conditions.
