Families welcoming new babies at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland during the month of November will now receive a special gift thanks to a heartfelt donation made in memory of 17-year-old Haley Jarosiewicz, a beloved Midland High School student whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident in early 2025.

In Haley’s honor, her mother, Becky Jarosiewicz, her godmother, Kristi Burns, and her aunt, Erin Rey have donated 100 books to be given to newborns and their families in the hospital’s Maternity Center. The donation celebrates Haley’s lifelong love of reading and her joy in nurturing and caring for others—especially babies.

“Haley was an avid reader from the time she was little,” said Becky. “She loved getting lost in a good story, and she loved sharing that joy with others. This gift felt like a way to share a part of her with other families who are just beginning their own stories.”

Born at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland, Haley was known for her bright spirit, academic excellence, and compassionate heart. She was deeply involved in her community, serving on student council, participating in her church youth group, and helping lead efforts to bring young people closer to Christ.

The book donation will become an annual tradition in Haley’s memory, with the hope of inspiring a lifelong love of reading for the newest members of the Midland community.

“We are deeply touched by this thoughtful gift,” said Denise O’Keefe, executive director of MyMichigan Health Foundation. “Each book given in Haley’s name carries her spirit of kindness, learning, and love for others. We are honored to help keep her memory alive through the families we serve.”

Families delivering at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland during the month of November will receive a copy of the donated book as part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to early childhood development and literacy support.
