The ribbon cutting marked the end of phase 2 of a multi-year expansion that has increased department capacity by 38 percent and enhanced safety, privacy and patient comfort. The project is funded in part by donations from the Midland Area Community Foundation, MyMichigan Medical Center Midland Volunteers and other community donors.
Project upgrades included:
- A more spacious and comfortable waiting room seating up to 50 people
- Safety and privacy enhancements to registration and triage areas
- New tech rooms and six new vertical care spaces for patients with less severe conditions
- Added beds and staffing to boost total department capacity by 38 percent.
Phase 3 of the project, with timing yet to be determined, will further expand the Emergency Department and add a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine and a fixed Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scanner to reduce wait times for these critical tests.
