Beginning December 3, patients visiting the Emergency Department at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland should look for signs routing them to a temporary alternate entrance as the registration area undergoes final renovations.

Patients visiting the Emergency Department at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland will need to use an alternate entrance for two weeks beginning December 3 as construction crews put the finishing touches on a new registration area. Patients are advised to look for wayfinding signs to guide them to the alternate entrance and to registration.

The registration upgrade is the final step in Phase 2 of a multi-year expansion project that kicked off early this year. Phases 1 and 2 added staff and beds, a more spacious and comfortable waiting room seating up to 50 people, safety and privacy enhancements to registration and triage areas, new tech rooms and six new vertical care spaces for patients with less severe conditions. Together these upgrades boost total department capacity by 38 percent.

Phase 3 of the project, with timing yet to be determined, will further expand the Emergency Department to meet future projected demand. The Medical Center will also add a third Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine and a fixed Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scanner to reduce wait times for these critical tests. The Emergency Department will continue to operate 24/7 throughout all phases of the project.

The project is funded in part by donations from the Midland Area Community Foundation, MyMichigan Medical Center Midland Volunteers and other community donors. Those who would like to learn more about the project may visit mymichigan.org/emergency-Midland.
