Under the stewardship of the MyMichigan Health Foundation, $16,200 has been awarded to nine students for the 2025-2026 school year from The Paul A. Poling Memorial Scholarship Fund, The Dr. George Schaiberger, Sr, Dr. Howard VanOosten and Dr. Lloyd Wiegerink Memorial Scholarship Fund and The Tolfree Scholarship Fund.

The following students have received scholarships for the upcoming school year: Gladwin – Hayley Lademann and Lauren Revord; Iosco – Colleen Kubisiak, Allie Morand, and Olivia Morand; Ogemaw – Kylie Billeter, Mariah Buckett, Diane Lehman, Somer Sappington, and Lillian White; Roscommon – Amber Eddy.

Examples of the health professions being pursued by these individuals include Doctor of Physical Therapy, speech language-pathologist, nurse practitioner, nursing, and medical assistant.

The Paul A. Poling Memorial Scholarship Fund was initiated through a $500,000 estate left by long-time Board Trustee of MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch and donor to MyMichigan Health Foundation, Paul A. Poling. Poling was a West Branch resident and successful business owner who had a firm belief in education and a desire to provide for future healthcare professionals in this region.

The Dr. George Schaiberger, Sr., Dr. Howard VanOosten, and Dr. Lloyd Wiegerink Memorial Scholarship Fund was initiated by the medical staff at MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch as a tribute to the three physicians. All three physicians were pioneers of the early years of the Medical Center, and this scholarship was created in memory of the many selfless hours of exceptional medical care provided by these physicians, who were and are venerated as pillars of the West Branch community.

The Tolfree Scholarship Fund was created by the MyMichigan Health Foundation Board of Directors to further health care education in its service area to provide quality healthcare professionals for its citizens.
