MyMichigan and GTOC Look Forward to Future Collaborations
MyMichigan Medical Center Sault extends its heartfelt thanks to the Grand Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic (GTOC) for more than two decades of dedicated service to the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The community has greatly benefited from the outstanding ophthalmology care provided by GTOC.
Kevin Kalchik, president, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault, expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership, “Our collaboration has spanned more than 20 years, and we will miss the exceptional care they have provided to our community. However, we also recognize the challenges GTOC faces in recruiting providers willing to travel to Sault Ste. Marie.”
GTOC, which operates clinics in Traverse City, Petoskey, and Sault Ste. Marie recently announced they will close its Sault Ste. Marie location due to staffing and recruitment challenges. Dr. Wentzloff, a partner at GTOC, shared, “This is a difficult decision for us as we have enjoyed serving the community. It has been our privilege and honor to be here.”
Despite the closure, both Kalchik and Dr. Wentzloff remain hopeful that changes in health care conditions will allow for future collaborations.
“We are committed to exploring ways to ensure that community members continue to have access to quality ophthalmology care close to home,” said Kalchik. Dr Wentzloff agreed, “Yes. We look forward to future opportunities to serve the community collaboratively and are grateful for the support and trust of the Eastern Upper Peninsula residents over the years.”
