Board-certified general surgeon, Cynthia Payne, M.D., has joined MyMichigan Medical Group, located on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Tawas. In addition to her surgical expertise, Dr. Payne has a special interest in wound care and provides dedicated treatment for patients at the Wound Care centers at MyMichigan Medical Centers in Tawas and Standish.

Dr. Payne chose a career in rural general surgery to ensure that individuals in smaller communities have access to high-quality, comprehensive care without the need to travel long distances to larger cities.

“I love being part of a small town and building lasting relationships with my patients, not just within the hospital but throughout the community,” said Dr. Payne. “Being integrated into the community is important to me, and I’m proud to serve on multiple boards, committees and hospital leadership teams.”

As a rural surgeon, Dr. Payne offers a range of procedures, including screening and diagnostic endoscopies to aid in colon cancer prevention, hernia repairs, gallbladder removal and the treatment of skin lesions, including low-grade skin cancers, providing timely care for patients until they can be seen by a specialist such as a dermatologist.

In addition to her surgical practice, Dr. Payne provides specialized care for chronic and non-healing wounds at the Wound Care centers in Tawas and Standish. These centers provide an approach to wound care that is comprehensive, coordinating traditional and advanced therapies that aid and accelerate the healing process. The team of physicians, nurses and technicians, all with advanced training in wound care, are committed to advanced, patient-centered care aimed at optimizing outcomes and improving quality of life for individuals with complex wound care needs.
