Joseph Adel, M.D., has been selected as the next Neuroscience Service Line Chief for MyMichigan Health.

Joseph Adel, M.D., has been selected as the next Neuroscience Service Line Chief for MyMichigan Health. Dr. Adel, a neurosurgeon at MyMichigan Medical Center in Saginaw, succeeds Mark Jones, M.D., who served in this leadership role for the past seven years.

Dr. Adel will partner with Michael Wahoviak, neuroscience service line director, to form the dyad leadership team. In his new role, Dr. Adel will provide direction and clinical guidance to further advance MyMichigan Health as the premier regional leader in neuroscience care, with a strong focus on quality improvement, patient safety and exceptional outcomes.

In recent years, Dr. Adel led the effort for MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw (formerly Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital) to achieve, and subsequently maintain, accreditation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) from The Joint Commission, the highest recognition of its kind. As the only CSC in the region, the Saginaw Medical Center provides 24/7 care for the most complex cases across the Great Lakes Bay area and northern Michigan.

A board-certified neurosurgeon with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Adel specializes in cerebrovascular, endovascular and skull base neurosurgery. He completed fellowship training in these subspecialties, earned his medical degree from American University of Beirut Medical Center in Lebanon and completed his neurosurgical residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Adel has served the greater Saginaw region since 2014.
