MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma and West Branch have earned Primary Stroke Center certification from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), elevating its previous designation as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital. This certification ensures patients in the region have access to faster, more advanced stroke care closer to home.
Primary Stroke Center certification is awarded to hospitals that meet rigorous standards for rapid stroke evaluation, timely administration of clot-busting medication and the delivery of other evidence-based therapies.
Certification is a process through which health care organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. Certification by ACHC reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.
According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the number two cause of death worldwide and is a leading cause of disability. Because stroke, or “brain attacks,” affect blood flow to the brain, rapid and effective treatment can save lives and offer the best chance of limiting the extent of long-term damage.
Should a higher level of care be needed, MyMichigan Health’s Neuroscience Centers in Midland and Saginaw provide advanced medical treatment. MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw, the region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center, delivers the highest level of stroke care with rapid diagnosis, advanced technology and specialized intervention for complex cases. Across the MyMichigan Health system, patients benefit from an experienced team of physicians and surgeons skilled in complex brain, spine and cerebrovascular conditions—ensuring leading-edge care is always accessible close to home.
