Members of the Clare Area Chamber of Commerce and MyMichigan Medical Center Clare gathered for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of an expanded Emergency Department, a new imaging area and all private patient rooms.

A larger, more comfortable Emergency Department, 16 new private patient rooms and a new imaging area are now open and ready to welcome patients at MyMichigan Medical Center Clare. The Medical Center broke ground on the $40 million, 51,000 square-foot expansion in July 2024 and, since that time, the community has seen big changes to the campus.

“Delivering these improvements to our patients and their families is a major milestone for all those involved in the project, but it’s bigger than that. It marks a transformative moment for local health care,” said Chuck Sherwin, FACHE, market president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare, Midland and Mt. Pleasant. “This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to the Clare community and neighboring areas and ensures patients and families receive high-quality, compassionate care when and where they need it most.”

The new Emergency Department features convenient curbside drop-off with a covered canopy; a warm, naturally lit lobby with comfortable seating; a dedicated registration area; access to a lab draw station that is available 24/7; 14 fully private treatment rooms and a dedicated ambulance entrance that provides a direct connection to two, large state-of-the-art trauma bays.

Also, part of the expansion and now open, the Imaging Department has added a new MRI and CT scanner, and for the community’s convenience, imaging services are now accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And, on the second floor, the Medical Center created 16 new, private patient rooms that offer a safe, quiet, patient-friendly environment for rest and recovery.

Construction now shifts to Phase Two of the project which will create a more welcoming main entrance, lobby and registration area, expand the Shamrock Patch Gift Shop, provide first floor dining and improve the exterior plaza and wayfinding.

“We are grateful for the support we’ve received from area business, organizations and individuals who have donated to the future of health care in Clare,” said Becky Church, director, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “We are still welcoming donations and encourage community members to join us in creating a meaningful and lasting impact for everyone we serve.”
