Dr. David Rayfield Endowed Scholarship Awarded
DaeLynn Harris is the 2026-2027 Dr. David Rayfield Endowed Scholarship Awardee.
DaeLynn Harris, a dedicated nursing student at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), has been awarded the Dr. David Rayfield Endowed Scholarship in the amount of $2,400 through the MyMichigan Health Foundation.
Harris plans to pursue a career as a pediatric nurse and has distinguished herself through academic achievement, leadership, and a strong commitment to serving others. She has been actively involved in numerous volunteer activities, including children’s ministry at her church and Celebration Kids Camp, where she most recently served as a junior counselor.
At SVSU, Harris has embraced opportunities to grow both personally and professionally through involvement in student organizations such as Global Foundation Scholars, Women in Health Care, the Student Nurses Association, and Delight Women’s Ministries. She also served as a Fresh Start Leader during freshman orientation and participates in additional outreach projects through the university. Harris believes that small acts of kindness can create meaningful change within a community.

This scholarship not only recognizes DaeLynn’s accomplishments, but also helps continue Dr. Rayfield’s legacy of kindness, service, and belief in the power of education.”
The Dr. David Rayfield Endowed Scholarship was established in 2021 by his family to honor his life and values. A professor of philosophy at SVSU from 1970 to 2005, Dr. Rayfield was known for his compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to supporting others through life’s challenges. He believed deeply in making education more accessible, especially for students in need.
At the end of his life, Dr. Rayfield received hospice care from MyMichigan Home Care nurse Cori Kehr, R.N. Her skilled and heartfelt care for both him and his family members left a lasting impression. In recognition of her compassion and the exceptional care provided by MyMichigan Health, Dr. Rayfield’s family created the endowed scholarship to honor his belief in education and the healing power of human connection.
