Enhance Wellness, Knowledge in Community Lunch & Learn Series

MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw invites the community to attend its enriching and educational series designed to enhance wellness and knowledge. The Wellness Wednesday Lunch & Learn Series begins in October, and sessions will take place in the Health Education Center on the Medical Center campus at 800 S. Washington, Saginaw. Doors open at 11 a.m., with the program running from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants may attend individual sessions for a fee of $10 each or purchase a series of three for $25.

The series kicks off with “Young at Heart, Wise in Spirit. The Aging Journey,” on Wednesday, Oct. 7, featuring Jennifer Root, board certified specialist in oncology physical therapy at MyMichigan Health. Root will lead an inspiring afternoon dedicated to nourishing the mind, body, and spirit. Attendees will discover how focusing on the whole self, not just individual symptoms, can bring vitality, balance, and joy to everyday life. In addition, participants will learn how to enjoy a healthy, holistic aging journey and simple ways to re-focus on life.

Then, on Wednesday, Oct. 14, the second session will be held and will focus on “Look Before You Leap (and Walk). Think First to Prevent Falls,” featuring Kelli Jankens, trauma injury prevention manager, MyMichigan Health. Participants will learn that falls do not have to be a part of aging. Every year, millions of older adults experience falls that lead to serious injuries, including brain trauma and hip fractures, or worse. The good news is that most falls are preventable. This empowering and informative session is designed to help participants stay steady, safe and independent. Jankens will share information and everyday strategies for staying safe, including the real impact of the “fear of falling,” simple home and community safety strategies, and the role of nutrition, exercise, vision and medications in fall prevention.

The series concludes with “Lifestyle Medicine: Hands-on Approach to Managing a More Healthy Life,” on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with Jennifer Felten, R.N., community education, MyMichigan Health. Felten will offer an inspiring luncheon dedicated to healthy, vibrant living. Attendees will discover how the six pillars of lifestyle medicine can help prevent and manage chronic conditions, boost everyday energy, and improve long-term well-being. In addition, attendees will also enjoy a live cooking demonstration which will include a snack, lunch/dinner, and a dessert, along with easy, healthy and tasty recipes to take home.
