Jenna Szilagyi of Midland has been selected as the recipient of the Cinthia and Mauro Gregorio Scholarship. The $2,500 award is administered through the MyMichigan Health Foundation. Szilagyi is pursuing a nursing degree at Northern Michigan University and is committed to building a career dedicated to caring for others through the nursing profession.
“We are pleased to support Jenna as she continues her education in nursing,” said Denise O’Keefe, executive director of the MyMichigan Health Foundation. “Nursing students like Jenna represent the future of compassionate, high-quality health care in our communities. We look forward to seeing all she accomplishes throughout her career.”
The Gregorios established the scholarship fund in 2024 as a tribute to their parents – Dirce and Carlos Silva, and Lourdes and Constantino Gregorio. Both families came from humble beginnings and placed a high value on education. While none of the parents were able to attend college themselves, their dedication ensured that their children graduated as engineers, an attorney and a medical doctor. Their sacrifices have had a lasting impact on future generations.
“We created this fund not only to honor our parents, but also to enhance the quality of nursing in the MyMichigan Health service area,” said Cinthia Gregorio. “Nurses hold a special place in our hearts, and we want to ensure that students with the compassion and skills for nursing have the means to complete their education.”
