MyMichigan Builds Upon Leadership Transition
Hunter Nostrant, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E. R.H.C.E.O.C
Building on a leadership transition shared in December, MyMichigan Health has announced additional changes to its executive roles and Medical Center leadership. Effective March 1, 2026, Hunter Nostrant, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E. R.H.C.E.O.C, will transition from president of MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena to the role of chief operating officer for MyMichigan Health. In addition, MyMichigan Health has transitioned existing leadership positions to reflect a focus on specific markets to enhance its service delivery and bolster the health system’s dedication to community care.
Those leading the market initiative are Chuck Sherwin, FACHE, who was named market president for MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare, Midland and Mt. Pleasant following the retirement of Marita Hattem-Schiffman on Feb.1. Mike Erickson will also transition to the role of market president for MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alpena, Saginaw, Standish, Tawas and Towne Centre on March 1. Ray Stover, president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Gladwin and West Branch, as well as Kevin Kalchik, president, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault will remain in their current roles.
“These leadership updates reflect a thoughtful and intentional approach to how we lead and operate,” said Lydia Watson, M.D., president and CEO, who announced her retirement in December 2025. “Centralizing leadership is an important step for MyMichigan Health and will support bringing teams closer together. It has proven effective in streamlining operations, supporting consistent, high-quality care, and strengthening alignment across our system. As we continue to refine and build on this model, we are well positioned to leverage shared resources, elevate best practices, and respond efficiently to the needs of the communities we serve.”
Nostrant, who was named president of MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena in 2024, served as president and CEO of Helen Newberry Joy Hospital and Healthcare Center, as well as its chief operating officer and chief financial officer before that. He also worked at both MyMichigan Medical Center Sault and at Precision Edge Surgical Products before joining HNJH in 2015.
“Hunter’s leadership has consistently translated vision into results across our organization,” said Cross. “In his role as president, he built collaborative relationships with employees, volunteers and health care providers, while remaining deeply connected to the needs of the communities we serve. As chief operating officer, Hunter will bring that same leadership, operational focus, and systemwide perspective to help advance our strategic priorities and strengthen performance across the health system.”
Nostrant earned his bachelor’s degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and his Master of Health Administration from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and earned a Rural Hospital CEO Certification through the National Rural Healthcare Association, amongst other credentials.
He is a member of many professional organizations including the American College of Healthcare Executives and Healthcare Financial Management Association. Nostrant also served on a variety of boards including the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, Michigan Center for Rural Health, Upper Peninsula Health Plan and the Rural Health Congress for the National Rural Health Association.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with Bryan and the executive team as we continue to lead thoughtful change that positions MyMichigan Health for the future,” Nostrant said. “At the heart of that work is our team. I’m deeply grateful for the talented individuals across our organization, and as change continues, our ability to adapt together will be key to ensuring long-term strength and success.”
Erickson, who held the role of president for the Medical Center in Alpena from 2022 to 2024, is excited to again serve the community of Alpena.
“To be given the opportunity to serve Alpena again and work alongside a team that is deeply committed to this community is both meaningful and energizing,” said Erickson. “Alpena holds a special place for me and I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place to support our patients and families across the region.”
With an extensive history of serving on local boards and councils, Erickson started his career with MyMichigan Health in 2008 as the system vice president support services. He then transitioned in 2021 to system vice president professional services where he was accountable for oversight, vision and leading the strategic direction for professional services across the health system. Erickson’s holds master’s degrees in business administration, as well as technology management, both from the University of Maryland. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in management studies from the same university. Erickson is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
