Take Time for You Fall Lunch and Learn Series
The Community Outreach Committee of the MyMichigan Health Foundation Development Council serving Alpena invites community members to join them for this year’s Fall Take Time for You series. The three-part series will feature local experts discussing cancer education, mental health and bone health. The one-hour programs will be held at noon in the MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena Auditorium. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The program fee is $10 per session or $25 for the entire series, which includes lunch.
The series kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with Dr. Bill and Jen Hitzelberger who will present on “Hitz for Hope,” a new nonprofit founded by the Hitzelberger family comprised of Dr. Bill Hitzelberger, his wife, Jen, and their children, Hunter, Sydney, Olivia, and Tucker. The organization empowers individuals with trusted cancer education, advances knowledge through accessible resources, and inspires charitable giving that fuels hope, research, and support. Attendees will learn more about Hitz for Hope and its goal of removing fear and confusion by providing medically accurate, compassionate information for patients, families, and communities.
Then on Tuesday, Oct. 13, Nena Sork, M.S.W., executive director, Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority, will host “Mental Health in Northeast Michigan.” At this session, Sork will provide an overview of anxiety, depression, and mental health challenges specific to our region. In addition, she will discuss common symptoms and locally available resources, while offering practical advice to strengthen community awareness. Attendees will gain insight into prevention, intervention, and ways to access mental health services for the ones they love.
The series closes out on Tuesday, Oct. 27, with “Osteoporosis and Bone Density,” presented by Surgeon Eric Cornish, M.D. Dr. Cornish will discuss the importance of bone health including risk factors, screening guidelines, and why early detection is so important, particularly for those most at risk such as women and the elderly. He will also review prevention strategies, including nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes. Attendees will gain practical guidance to help protect their bones by maintaining their strength, mobility and general health while understanding the risks of not doing so.
