West Branch Medical Center Receives Top 5-Star Rating for Quality

MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch was one of only nine hospitals in Michigan to receive a 5-Star Rating for Overall Hospital Quality from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This rating is based on a comprehensive evaluation of hospital performance across multiple categories, including mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience and timely, effective care.
“Earning a CMS 5-Star Rating places MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch among the top-performing hospitals in the state and reinforces our commitment to providing high-quality care close to home for the communities we serve,” said Bryan Cross, PharmD., president and CEO, MyMichigan Health.
Beyond its 5-Star Rating, the Medical Center in West Branch was recognized for scoring “above average” in 20 of the 39 measures scored evaluated by CMS. Additional MyMichigan Medical Centers also earned strong CMS ratings this year, with Alma, Midland and Standish each receiving 4-star ratings, further reflecting the organization’s continued commitment to quality and patient safety across the health system.
“Our teams consistently review our current state of measure performance via various dashboards and monitoring to ensure course-correction and improvements are implemented. Often, performance has improved on measures/categories or opportunities have been identified and improvements are being implemented.,” added Cross.
Serving Ogemaw County and surrounding communities since 1927, MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch is an 86-bed hospital with more than 550 employees, volunteers, physicians and other personnel dedicated to serving patients across northern Michigan. Accredited by The Joint Commission and affiliated with Michigan Medicine, the Medical Center features a 17,505-square-foot state-of-the-art emergency department open 24 hours a day, four surgical suites, a Level IV Trauma Center and a Wound Treatment Center.
MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch offers a full range of specialty services, including cancer care, diabetes services, emergency and trauma care, heart and vascular services, imaging, maternity and obstetrics, musculoskeletal care, neuroscience services, oncology, ophthalmology, pain management, pulmonology, radiation services, rehabilitation services, sports medicine, surgical services, urology and wound treatment services, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Recent honors for the Medical Center include Primary Stroke Center Certification from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care Certification in 2025, the 2025 Hospital Patient Safety Award from the Economic Alliance for Michigan and recognition as a 2024 U.S. News & World Report Maternity Care Access Hospital.
