    Welcome to MyMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot Inpatient Mental Health

    Upon admission, you will have a mental health screening with a therapist, who will also explain the program options available to you. During this time it is OK to share any thoughts about your mental and physical health. For those who are so ill that it interferes with daily living, the Inpatient PsychCare program will be recommended.

  • Evaluation

    Many medical conditions can cause people to show symptoms commonly associated with mental illness. To make sure that the cause of the illness is accurately diagnosed, a doctor will give you a physical examination to rule out medical causes before you are admitted to the PsychCare program.
  • Admission

    Admission at MyMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot Inpatient Mental Health

    Once admitted to the PsyCare program, you will be evaluated by a psychiatrist who will become your primary physician. The psychiatrist will establish the diagnosis and choose the correct medication and therapy you may need. You will also be an active team member in developing and carrying out your plan of care.

    Treatment in the program will encourage you to resume normal activities of a typical day, including daily hygiene routines, wearing comfortable clothing and enjoying activities of your choice. You will also have your own private room.

  • Visitors

    You will be encouraged to socialize and have visitors. Visitors are welcomed during visiting hours. Even if you feel unable to have a conversation, simply enjoying a person's company is important.
  • Recreation

    As you recover, recreation can help you gain a sense of fun and start to once again enjoy what life has to offer. Leisure activities help build social interaction skills and self-reliance. Physical activity helps, too, and is strongly encouraged.

    Group and individual therapy will be essential parts of your day. Not only do they help you understand your illness, but they provide you techniques to manage your illness now and in the future.

    Going through a psychosis or depression may affect your appetite. In the unit's therapy kitchen, cooking - and the accompanying aromas - help patients regain and enjoy life's normalcy.
  • Socialization

    The dining room is a favorite place to gather with others during leisure time. Joining a group for meals and other activities is strongly encouraged.
