Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
The MyMichigan Health Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a tailored therapeutic experience for middle and high school
students. In this program, patients will explore their thoughts, emotions and behaviors in a supportive group environment. They will also learn about a variety of topics including mental health, stress management, assertiveness and boundaries, among others.
IOP provides a higher level of care than traditional weekly therapy sessions, serving individuals who need more intensive support but do not require partial or inpatient hospitalization.
Treatment Team
The treatment team includes a psychiatrist, licensed therapists with master's degrees and registered nurses.
Outpatient Services
Group sessions are held three times a week and address a variety of topics, such as:
- Family conflicts
- Social stressors
- Suicidal thoughts or self-harm tendencies
- Symptom management
- Medication management
- Relaxation techniques
- Communication and coping skills
- Problem-solving strategies
The program offers a safe, structured, and supportive environment with:
- Personalized goals for each patient and their family
- Strict confidentiality
- Experienced, licensed therapists, nurses, and psychiatrists
- A schedule that includes group psychotherapy, educational sessions, and individual and family therapy
- Evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT)
- Psychiatric consultations for medication management and reviews
- Discharge planning and coordination of resources for ongoing support
Referrals to the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) can be made by various individuals, including parents/guardians, primary care providers, pediatricians, inpatient unit staff, emergency department staff, therapists, nurses, social workers, school personnel, or Community Mental Health (CMH) programs. To get an overview of the program, please call (989) 839-3385 during business hours. After the initial overview, you will be directed to the program's confidential voicemail, which is also available after hours. Program staff will return your call the next business day and will also reach out to both the parent/guardian and the potential patient. Please note that this is not a monitored line, and crisis messages should not be left.
