Affordable Mammograms
Early Detection Shouldn't Depend on Your Wallet
A yearly mammogram is one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early—when it's most treatable. At MyMichigan Health, we believe cost should never be a barrier to care. If you're uninsured or underinsured, we offer several options to help make mammograms accessible and affordable.
Insurance Coverage for Mammograms
If you have any of these insurances, you may have coverage for all or part of the cost of a mammogram.
Commercial Insurance
Most commercial insurance plans now cover 3D Mammography (Tomosynthesis) as a preventive benefit.
- Contact your insurer or employer for details about your coverage.
- If you’re unable to afford your co-pay or deductible, see our special programs for uninsured and underinsured women below.
Medicare
Medicare covers annual screening mammograms for women age 40 and older.
- Deductibles are waived for screenings; a co-pay may still apply.
- If you have secondary insurance, it may cover any remaining costs.
📞 For more information: Call 1-800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227) or your local Social Security office.
Medicaid
Most Medicaid programs cover one mammogram per year for women age 40 and older.
- Coverage and eligibility may vary by program.
- Contact your local Department of Human Services to learn more or apply.
Veterans' Benefits
Veterans and their family members may qualify for coverage.
📞 Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-800-827-1000 or (202) 273-5400 for assistance.
Programs for Uninsured and Underinsured Women
Women aged 40–64 who are uninsured or underinsured may qualify for free services including:
- Clinical breast exam
- Mammogram
- Optional pelvic exam and Pap test
✅ If cancer is detected through BC3NP, you may also qualify for Medicaid coverage to assist with treatment.
📝 Re-application is required each year.
