Cancer Screenings
Routine cancer screenings can help detect cancer early when it is most treatable. It is best to develop a screening plan with your provider, especially for those at a higher risk due to family history, genetics or other factors.
Below are some recommended screening guidelines for people with average risk.
Screenings by Age
20's
Cervical Cancer
- Pap smear beginning at age 25 to screen for cervical precancers, then every three years
- HPV test starting at age 25, then every five years
Breast Cancer
- Begin regular breast self-exams and report any changes to your providers
Skin Cancer
- Check skin regularly for new growths or changes in moles or freckles
30's
- Continue cervical cancer screenings (Pap smears and or HPV testing)
- Continue regular breast self-exams
- Continue routine skin checks
40's
Breast Cancer
Colon Cancer
- Colonoscopy starting at age 45
50's
Lung Cancer
- At age 50, individuals with a history of smoking should talk to their provider about a low-dose CT Scan
Prostate Cancer
- Men should begin regular prostate cancer screening at age 50
