“We’re fortunate to have this facility close to home, and I consider it my go-to place for most of my health care needs.”

My Go-To Place for Convenient, One-Stop Health Care

Cheryl Main of Blanchard has long felt like MyMichigan Health was “family,” and that has never been more true than when she recently needed surgery close to home.

After 15 years of working in the physician offices at MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant, Main retired to take care of her young grandchildren during the day while her daughter works. Yet her visits to the Medical Center didn’t end there.

“I had carpal tunnel in both wrists, and I opted to have both surgeries done at Mt. Pleasant Surgery Center,” Main said. “That turned out to be a great decision. Not only was it significantly less expensive than having the same procedures done at a hospital, but they got me in and out quickly so I could recover comfortably at home, and everybody was so attentive. I was so impressed with how the nurses were right there for me, always watching over me and communicating with my husband and me to make sure we knew what was happening. I didn’t feel like I was shut in a room waiting and wondering.”

Main’s surgeries were performed by Orthopedic Surgeon James Ware, D.O., who sees patients in the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine suite at MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant as well as in Alma. He performs minimally invasive procedures on a same-day basis at the ambulatory surgery center inside the Medical Center.

“I absolutely love Dr. Ware. He was very flexible with his schedule to make sure I could apply both surgeries to the same deductible, and I ended up having the first surgery on Black Friday and the second on New Year’s Eve. He did an awesome job, and I healed very quickly with no visible scars. Overall, it was an excellent, excellent experience.”

Main was so pleased with the surgery center that she later chose the same venue for her colonoscopy, which was performed by General Surgeon James Pilkington, M.D. “That encounter went equally well,” she stated.

Main finds the environment at the Medical Center more comfortable and “homelike” than a typical hospital. That plus the convenience of having multiple services in one place have kept her coming back for everything from primary care to imaging to rehabilitation services to using the on-site pharmacy.

“I come here for primary care, physical therapy, imaging and pharmacy,” she said. “We’re fortunate to have this facility close to home, and I consider it my go-to place for most of my health care needs.”
