Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce images. It is very good at imaging soft tissues, glands and organs. In breast evaluation, it is most often used to further evaluate a density or mass seen on a mammogram, or to evaluate a lump felt during a manual exam. Ultrasound can also be used to guide biopsy procedures.
