Biography
Anas Alsara, M.D., is a board-certified medical oncologist/hematologist with MidMichigan Physicians Group and is a member of the comprehensive cancer care team at MidMichigan Health. This team includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, specialized surgeons, interventional radiologists, genetic counselors, as well as breast and lung health navigators.
During his internal medicine residency, Dr. Alsara worked as a hospitalist where he had the opportunity to care for many cancer patients. He was inspired by the tremendous developments and advances in the diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in the oncology field.
Dr. Alsara also has a extensive background in research and believes clinical trials are crucial in improving our understanding of cancer and in developing more advanced tools in the battle against the disease.
Philosophy of Care
According to Dr. Alsara, his work as a hospitalist physician enhanced his interpersonal skills. “I listen to my patient’s concerns and integrate them in their plan of care,” said Dr. Alsara. “I don’t simply treat the disease, I treat the people.” He strives to treat every patient like a family member and wants to work with his patients to achieve their goals in a compassionate way.
“I am dedicated to educating my patients and improving their overall wellness,” adds Dr. Alsara.
When asked about the most satisfying aspects of his work, Dr. Alsara shared that he wants to make a positive impact on his patient’s life. “I want my patients to trust that I have their best interests at heart,” he added.
Special Interests and Procedures
As a medical oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Alsara has in-depth expertise in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of various forms of cancer, specifically lung, gastrointestinal and breast as well as hematological malignancies. He is also interested in benign hematological disorders.
When asked about the biggest advancements in the field of oncology, Dr. Alsara mentioned the rapidly evolving individualizing of cancer care which offers tremendous hope for the patients and their families.
Dr. Alsara and his wife, Leila, have two daughters that keep them on their toes. In his free time, he enjoys biking, traveling and spending time with his family.
