Biography

Pediatrician Shannon Bowen, M.D. specializes in caring for children from newborns to teens. She sees patients at MyMichigan Pediatrics on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Midland.

Philosophy of Care

“As cliché as it may sound, I was born to be a Pediatrician. I have a hardbound book from elementary school confessing my love for pediatrics. My parents fostered and adopted over 60 children all with individual health care needs. I was drawn to the medical field right away and knew I wanted to continue to be a part of the medical experience.”

“I aim to create lasting relationships with my patients and their families so they feel comfortable knowing their child is in good hands. While I love taking care of children when they are sick I find it even more important to provide counseling and support for families in times of wellness.”

I try to create a safe zone for patients and their families to express their concerns, and speak freely without fear of judgement. From newborns to budding young adults, I enjoy making connections and supporting them through whatever life has thrown their way! I love seeing families happy and if a positive patient experience can result from our visits then I have done my job.”

“I have a special place in my heart for growing families. I hope to provide an open door for all parents to come with questions about their children. All children are unique and come with new joys and challenges. Support and counseling is the foundation of my practice and I can’t wait to be another piece of the village you have created for your children.”

“I love that medicine has shifted from a field of diagnosis and treatment to one of social support and guidance. We will always be here in times of sickness but with the shift to preventive medicine and social networking we can give parents the tools they need to help their children be healthy and happy at home, at school, and in the community.”

“I am a certified lactation counselor and can provide breastfeeding support to new and seasoned mothers. Whether you are having difficulty with a successful latch, painful breastfeeding, difficulties with the breast pump, or just figuring out how to manage the chaos of nursing a newborn, I am here always!”

“I am a Michigander through and through. I grew up in the Flint area and spent 10 years in Grand Rapids for undergrad and medical school. I enjoy spending time up north, camping, ice fishing at my husband’s request, and exploring new cities with my family.”

“My husband and I live in Midland with our two daughters. We love the community and have had tons of fun exploring all of the extracurricular activities this town has to offer. I am sure we will see you at school drop off or on the sidelines while we cheer on our girls at their sporting events!”
