Biography
Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Melissa Duchene, specializes in medical oncology and hematology and sees patients at MyMichigan Medical Oncology & Hematology on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch.
Philosophy of Care
“I chose hematology and oncology because I personally lost my mom, who meant the world to me, to colon cancer,” Melissa shares. “In some way, I feel like I am giving back to her by helping others through difficult times. It feels like she is watching, and I am making her proud.”
Melissa believes that every patient deserves to be heard. Her philosophy of care centers on taking the time to listen, understand each patient’s concerns, and ensure they feel supported throughout their healthcare journey. She also values open communication and believes strong collaboration among patients, families, staff, and healthcare providers is essential to delivering exceptional care.
“The most important things for me are listening to my patients and taking the time to hear what they have to say,” Melissa says. “I also feel that communication, whether it is with patients, staff, or other care providers is essential.”
Melissa has a special interest in hematology, particularly chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), while caring for patients with a wide range of hematologic and oncologic conditions. She is committed to lifelong learning and continually expanding her knowledge and expertise to bring the latest advancements and evidence-based care to her patients at MyMichigan Health.
Known for her genuine compassion and dedication, Melissa strives to build meaningful relationships with her patients and provide personalized care that helps them feel supported, informed, and confident every step of the way.
