Biography

Thomas Fell, D.O., specializes in pediatrics and sees patients from newborns to teens at MyMichigan Pediatrics on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

Philosophy of Care

“I have always enjoyed working with kids,” said Dr. Fell. “Being able to combine that interest with science and medicine was a perfect fit for me. I feel being able to provide compassionate care for kids is the most rewarding field in medicine.”

“It is imperative to approach medical care as a team. This includes not only physicians and medical staff, but most importantly patients and their families. I strive to provide a family-based approach to caring for children. As such, I will always partner with patients and families while helping children to thrive and grow.”

“My goal with each visit is to create a trusting relationship using shared decision making with patients and families. It is important to me to listen to a patient’s thoughts and expectations when providing medical care.”

“It is hard to pinpoint one specific aspect of pediatrics that is most satisfying as I enjoy all aspects of my work. However, there is something special about providing care to newborns and working with first time mothers and fathers.”

“My philosophy of care encourages a team based approach while caring for patients. This allows all participants involved to have an active voice in the medical care of themselves or their loved ones. Patients and families can always expect me to be attentive to their concerns and wishes involving their medical care.”

“There have been great advances in pediatrics over the last decade. One of the most exciting and important advancements is the use of immunizations to prevent deadly diseases. Specifically, the HIB vaccine recently approved in the 1980’s prevents an incredibly dangerous condition called epiglottitis. Since the discovery of this vaccine, the incidence of epiglottitis has drastically decreased.”

“I enjoy spending time outdoors with my wife, Courtney, and our dog, Riley. We love spending time hiking and kayaking together. I also enjoy fishing whenever I can! I’m excited to meet my patients and looking forward to working with them and their families.”
