Biography
Sharon Hakes, N.P.-C., M.S.N., is a nurse practitioner and is a member of MyMichigan Health’s comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, structural heart specialists, as well as vascular and cardiovascular surgeons. Sharon specializes in cardiology and has a special interest in structural heart disease.
“The field of cardiology has always been my first choice,” she said. “The subfield of structural heart is exciting, full of growth and advancements in minimally-invasive procedures and will provide me with a well-rounded experience with all aspects of cardiology.”
Philosophy of Care
According to Hakes, she believes in a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to patient care, not just symptom management. “I consider the physical, social, spiritual and lifestyle factors that encompass the whole person to improve their overall health and wellness,” she said. “Building a trusting relationship with not only my patients, but also their families is of utmost importance, as I have learned in my many years of experience. My primary goal is effective communication with patients and their care team, which leads to better outcomes.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Sharon has a special interest is minimally-invasive treatment options for high risk patients. “Advanced treatment options are now available in the high-risk population that provide improved quality of life and symptom management,” she said. These include transcatheter aortic valvereplacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) using the MitraClip, and now tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair using the TriClip.”
In her free-time she enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, boating, bike riding, traveling, and exploring our national parks. She also loves watching and spending time with her grandkids. “My life’s work has been in health care, with an emphasis on being of service to my community to promote health and well-being, along with improved quality of life,” she added.
