Biography
Physician Assistant Kristin Johnson specializes in family medicine. She works at MyMichigan Health Park Freeland and sees patients of all ages.
Her interest in medicine began in high school. “It started with a class in advanced biology. The anatomy and physiology sections were very interesting, and I loved learning about how the human body works,” she said. “One day a PA student spoke to our class, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to work in medicine but didn’t know what path to take until I learned about the physician assistant field.”
Kristin worked in health care during college. “I really enjoyed getting to know the people I was caring for, getting to know their families and watching them progress. That’s what led me to family medicine,” she said.
Philosophy of Care
Kristin believes in empowering her patients through education. “It is very important that patients are informed and know as much as possible about their individual conditions,” she said. “When patients truly understand what is going on with them, they can do what is necessary to take care of their health.” She shares as much information as possible with patients by giving them materials to take home and answering any and all questions they may have. “The more they know the better,” she said.
Kristin also believes collaboration is key. “I want patients to trust me and my judgment and then work with me,” she said. “I will always be honest with patients and will do whatever is necessary to help them learn about and understand their conditions. I want them to work in partnership with me.”
Kristin is honored and humbled by the role she plays in her patients’ lives. “They trust me to take care of their health and their family members’ health,” she said. “I love being part of their lives and sharing the big moments.”
A Midland native, Kristin is delighted to be practicing in the area. “I love it here and I always knew I’d be back,” she said. She enjoys dancing and cycling. She and her husband, Steve, enjoy spending time with friends and family.
