Biography
Sarah Knust, M.D., specializes in family medicine. She sees patients at MyMichigan Primary Care in the Heritage Building, on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Sault.
Philosophy of Care
“I’ve wanted to go into medicine since high school,” said Dr. Knust. “I loved anatomy and physiology in school and decided to do pre-med in college.”
“While in college, I had the opportunity to shadow multiple specialties. When I shadowed with family medicine, I knew that’s what I wanted to go into. I loved the variety that came with family medicine as well as the relationships that the family medicine doctor has with their patients.”
This shadowing opportunity was done in a rural setting in the U.P., and Dr. Knust was drawn to the specific challenges and problem solving that come with being a rural primary care doctor. This training as well as a rural medicine elective in Gladwin and a rotation on Mackinac Island have helped her to become more self-sufficient and better prepared to support patients in a remote setting who may have to travel further for specialized care.
“My love for family medicine was reinforced with my medical school rotations and I was very involved with our family medicine interest group. Then I matched into the Family Medicine residency program in Midland.”
“It is really important to me to have my patients take an active role in their care and feel empowered about their health, so I work to build strong relationships and trust with my patients.”
