Biography
Cynthia Rubert, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon with specialized fellowship training in orthopedic oncology. Dr. Rubert is a member of MidMichigan Health’s comprehensive musculoskeletal program and is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of injuries, disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. She performs surgeries at MidMichigan Medical Center – West Branch.
Dr. Rubert was initially attracted to the field of orthopedic surgery because of her love of sports. She became a student athletic trainer in high school and loved everything about it – the anatomy, conditioning and injury prevention, mechanisms of injury, as well as the treatment (both nonsurgical and surgical). “In my first year of medical school, I was introduced to orthopedic surgery and worked with an orthopedic oncologist,” she added. “After that experience, I was ‘hooked’ and there was no other specialty for me!”
Philosophy of Care
Her philosophy of care is simple. Dr. Rubert believes in caring for her patients in the same manner that she would like to be cared for and in the same way she would care for her own family members. “Everyone deserves great care,” she said. “I believe in establishing relationships with my patients that are built on open communication, mutual respect, empathy, and trust. I want my patients to be comfortable in their care environment and confident that I, along with my colleagues and staff, will deliver the very best care available. I also try to get to know my patients and their families; many of whom are like family to me.”
According to Dr. Rubert, the most satisfying aspect of her job is seeing patients get better, move better, regain their function, and feel better by having the source of their pain reduced or alleviated. “Being able to participate in their health care and hopefully improve their ability to participate in life is the ultimate fulfilment,” she added. “I pay attention to details as every patient is unique in their history/experiences, resources, and care needs.”
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Rubert enjoys all aspects of orthopedic surgery; but has a particular interest in adult reconstruction (primary and revision). This includes hip and knee arthroplasty procedures; partial, total, and reverse shoulder arthroplasty; and trauma/fracture care. In addition, she has completed subspecialty training in orthopedic oncology and performs both bone and soft tissue procedures for benign and malignant tumors.
Dr. Rubert was born and raised in northern Michigan. After training and working in several major metropolitan areas with large health care organizations, she returned home to be near, and help take care of her family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mark, and their son, Sam. Her hobbies include hiking, cycling, downhill skiing, kayaking, snorkeling and fishing. She also loves white water rafting, travel, photography and art.
