Biography
Alexis Schafer, L.M.S.W., is a behavioral health therapist who works closely with your family medicine provider. Your provider has requested that Alexis work with you to manage your behavioral health care needs. A behavioral health therapist helps your provider in managing the care for patients with behavioral health problems such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss and other concerns related to emotional well-being. Alexis will meet with you one-on-one in the same office as your primary care provider rather than having you go to another location to receive services. This is referred to as Integrated Behavioral Health. The therapist assists with:
- Providing short-term evidence based therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy, problem solving therapy, interpersonal counseling, behavioral activation and motivational interviewing
- Conducting a review of your behavioral health information
- Providing education about your specific behavioral health concerns
- Helping you understand medications prescribed by your provider for behavioral health concerns
- Working with you to create personal goals and action plans to make changes to improve emotional well-being
- Connecting you to community resources for behavioral health support
Addressing emotional well-being can sometimes be intimidating. Alexis is here to answer any questions you may have regarding taking the first step. “I specialize in working with individuals, families, and children with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life’s day to day challenges,” adds Alexis “I live by the motto ‘shame dies when stories are told in safe places.’ Together we will work toward ongoing insight, growth and positive change both in and outside of sessions.”
