Philosophy
Sarah Slavik, F.N.P.-B.C., M.S.N., specializes in family medicine. She sees patients at MyMichigan’s School-Based Health Center serving all St. Louis public school students.
Philosophy of Care
“I am so excited to be able to care for our community’s adolescents in a school setting,” said Sarah. “This will allow me to be a resource in the school, helping improve access to high quality easily accessible medical care.”
“For the adolescent population, medical care can be frightening, I want my patients to feel comfortable and empowered to participate in their care, and this offers a unique opportunity to help keep kids healthy in a familiar environment -- their school!”
Sarah believes a patient-centered philosophy of care prioritizes the patient’s needs, preferences, and values, and that healthcare professionals should work together to ensure that decisions reflect the patient’s goals.
“I want to create a partnership with mutual respect, helping set achievable goals to improve health and wellness. I want my patient to be empowered in their medical decision making.”
Most of Sarah’s experience has been in a hospital setting, where often people are going through a difficult time.
“I’ve had the privilege to help make a positive difference in people’s lives, often during some of their worst moments.”
Sarah grew up in Breckenridge, where she participated in Gratiot County’s 4-H program. She and her husband, Wade, have three school-aged daughters and a son who are also very involved in school and community activities.
“I enjoy photography, being crafty, and watching my kids participate in many athletic, 4-H, and extracurricular events.”
