Biography
Lester Yan, M.D. specializes in family medicine. He sees patients of all ages at MidMichigan Medical Center – Mt. Pleasant.
Philosophy of Care
“My philosophy of patient care is primarily preventive,” said Dr. Yan. “My goal is to prevent serious medical conditions from developing. This takes into consideration environmental, behavioral, and cultural factors that can be modified.”
“The most satisfying part of my job is to know that I have done my best to optimize the health and lifespan of my patients so they can enjoy life to its fullest.”
“I want my patients to develop mutual relationships with me so they have significant determination in how their medical conditions are treated as opposed to a totally paternalistic approach, which is often the case in medicine.”
“I relate with patients in a way that they feel as though I am their friend or next door neighbor. This makes it easier for them to share the medical histories that are pertinent to their care.”
“In today’s medical climate, physicians are often forced to handle patients as statistical numbers on a piece of paper. I handle patients with a more humanistic approach, incorporating the individual’s unique ethnic and cultural attributes amongst other things. Even before I treat them as patients, I treat them as human beings first and foremost!”
“The most exciting medical development is the ever-evolving field of gene therapy. This will eventually enable many patients with cancer as well as chronic debilitating diseases to live significantly longer more enjoyable lives.”
“I enjoy especially Dermatology. Thus, I love performing dermatology procedures such as biopsies, complete excisions of moles etc., laceration repairs, etc., whenever I have the opportunity.”
“I have many hobbies and interests outside of medicine. These include astronomy, history, photography, national parks, animals, numismatics, and cooking.”
Dr. Yan is married and has a young stepdaughter.
