Dr. William Dery Endowed Scholarship Fund

William Dery, M.D., was a family medicine physician for MyMichigan Medical Center Midland from 1980 until his retirement in 2020. His entire career was with the Family Medicine Residency program at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland, first as a resident, then as a faculty member and finally as the program director. He was both a kind and intelligent clinician and a skilled educator. Bill enjoyed teaching resident physicians and was fervent about faculty development. Dr. Dery was known for his devotion to patient care and to teaching other physicians to care for their own patients. He was an extraordinary friend, colleague and mentor never missing an opportunity to help others.

This scholarship seeks to assist one individual who is passionate about learning and further their knowledge for the betterment of patient care.

Who Should Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a current faculty member OR current resident of MyMichigan Midland Family Medicine Residency
  • Indicate which educational conference, pursuit of advanced certification, or other educational pursuit to which the applicant will apply the scholarship

Application Process

Electronic applications for the upcoming school year will be accepted beginning January 1st of each year with the deadline of April 1st. Applications and support documentation will only be accepted electronically. To apply, complete the following steps:

  • Complete the online Dr. William Dery Scholarship Application. Please click submit button only once.
  • Submit supporting documentation of your educational conference, certification, or other pursuit, including how the funds will be used (travel, course fees, conference fees, books, materials, etc.) to dery.scholarship@mymichigan.org.

All application items are due in full by April 1st. Applicants can anticipate a response regarding the status of their applications during the month of June. Any questions can be sent to dery.scholarship@mymichigan.org.

Review Process

Applications will be reviewed annually by a scholarship committee consisting of at least three individuals employed by MyMichigan Health serving as one of the following: Program Director, Core Faculty, Program Manager of the MyMichigan Midland Family Medicine Residency Program, Chief of Staff, Medical Center President, Chief Academic Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer of MyMichigan Health.

The committee will select one (1) annual recipient.
