Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program

Arturas Klugas, M.D., earned his doctor of medicine degree from Kaunas University of Medicine in Kaunas, Lithuania and completed his residency training at the Family Medicine Residency Program at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. Before joining Gratiot Family Medicine Residency, Dr. Klugas served as a physician and faculty member at the Midland Family Medicine Residency. He is an Assistant Professor through the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Family Medicine Department.

Dr. Klugas completed the University of Michigan Faculty Development Fellowship in 2010.

Faculty Physician

Egle Klugiene, M.D., earned her doctor of medicine degree from Kaunas University of Medicine in Kaunas, Lithuania and is a graduate of the Family Medicine Residency Program at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland, where she also worked as a faculty physician for almost five years. She joined the faculty at MSU/MyMichigan Medical Center Alma Residency Program in 2017. Dr. Klugiene has successfully completed the University of Michigan Faculty Development Institute Fellowship Program. She has special interest in Women’s Health and Procedural Training.

When not at MSU/Gratiot Residency Program, she works as a family physician at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. Her greatest joy at work is teaching residents.

Photo of Vanessa LaRouche, M.D.

Faculty Physician

Vanessa LaRouche, M.D., graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 2019 and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at MSU/MyMichigan Medical Center Alma in 2022.  She joined the core faculty at the program as a board-certified physician in Family Medicine after completion of residency. She is a life-long Michigander, growing up in Bay City and attending Alma College before medical school. Her husband, Matt, teaches elementary school and they have one son, Teddy who aspires to be an only child. They enjoy traveling with family, fishing, kayaking, and swimming in the warm months; pumpkins and scary movies in the fall; and sledding and skiing in the winter. 

Dr. LaRouche is excited for the Lifestyle Medicine curriculum and will be taking her boards in the winter of 2022.

Faculty Physician

Michelle Nelson, M.D., earned her medical degree from the University College Dublin following undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the MSU/MyMichigan Medical Center Alma. She received the 2020 AFMRD/NAPCRG Family Medicine Resident Award for Scholarship, the 2020 Resident Teacher Award from the STFM, and the 2020 Star Resident award. Following graduation she joined the program as a faculty physician, specializing in Point-of-Care ultrasound. Alma, with its Scottish heritage, is a perfect fit with Dr. Nelson’s Celtic studies background.

Dr. Nelson lives with her husband, cat and a dog. Aside from working and teaching, she enjoys spending time gardening, crafting culinary experiences, and competitive video gaming, particularly World of Warcraft (for the Alliance!). As a foodie, she also likes to explore the area for the best restaurants in the region.

Faculty Physician

Nayab Qureshi, M.D., is a Board certified Family Physician who earned his degree at the American University of Antigua in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. He recently completed his residency training at the Family Medicine Residency Program at MSU/MyMichigan Medical Center Alma. He is originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois where he grew up and completed his undergraduate studies in Psychology. Dr. Qureshi is completing the University of Michigan Faculty Development Institute Fellowship Program this fall

Behavior Health Faculty

Matthew Stack, D.H.A., graduated with a Doctorate in Health Administration from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. In addition, Matt is a board certified Physician Assistant and has served our community for more than 10 years in family medicine and behavioral health care. He is an Associate Clinical Faculty at Michigan State University and is a guest lecturer at Central Michigan University Physician Assistant Program.
