Pediatric Applied Behavior Analysis at MyMichigan Health
MyMichigan Health offers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy—an evidence-based treatment for children with autism. ABA uses a scientific approach to help children learn positive behaviors, build life skills, and reduce challenging behaviors. Each program is carefully designed to fit the unique needs of every child.
How ABA Works
Children are first assessed to understand their strengths and areas where they need support. Then, a plan is created to help them improve in key areas such as:
- Language and communication
- Social and play skills
- Daily living skills (like brushing teeth, getting dressed, etc.)
- Managing and reducing problem behaviors
The main goal is to help every child reach their full potential and succeed at home, in school, and in the community.
Who Provides the Therapy?
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) leads each child’s program. The BCBA creates a plan, and trained behavior technicians provide one-on-one therapy. Sessions are fun and interactive—kids learn through play, which helps them enjoy the process while making progress.
Role of Parents
Parents are an important part of the team! The BCBA provides parent training sessions to teach strategies that help children continue learning at home. This teamwork helps children use their new skills in real-life situations.
Therapy Schedule
ABA therapy is most effective when it’s done several hours a week. Each child’s schedule is personalized based on their needs. Most children come to therapy a few days each week for several hours each day to get the best results.
