About

How We Can Help You

Addiction is a disease that affects your brain and your body. It can be hard to stop using drugs or alcohol because of strong cravings or withdrawal symptoms. Over time, addiction can change the way your brain works, and it takes time and support to heal.

The Addiction Medicine office (formerly Substance Use Disorder Program), offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to help manage cravings and reduce withdrawal symptoms. This treatment can help you feel better, stay on track, and focus on your recovery.

Our Approach to Recovery

We believe that everyone deserves high-quality care that is:

  • Focused on you
  • Affordable and accessible
  • Based on hope and healing
  • Guided by both science and compassion

We follow guidelines from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and other trusted health organizations to make sure you get the best care possible.

What Recovery Means to You

There are many different pathways to recovery and recovery looks different for everyone. It's not just about stopping substance use, it's about building a healthy, happy, and meaningful life.

We follow SAMHSA's, 4 dimensions that support life in recovery:

  • Improving your health and making healthy choices that support physical and emotional well-being.
  • Finding a safe and stable home.
  • Having a purpose each day through work, activities, or school.
  • Building a strong community of relationships with people who provide support, friendship, love, and hope.

What Guides Our Program

Our program is built around SAMHSA's guiding principles:

  • Recovery starts with hope
Believing that recovery in possible is the first step. You can overcome challenges, barriers, and obstacles and create a better future. We'll help you stay hopeful, even when it's hard.
  • Recovery is person-driven and lead by You
Your recovery is your journey. You choose your goals and the path that works best for you. We're here to support your choices and help you stay on track.
  • There are may paths to Recovery
Everyone's journey is different. Your recovery might include medication therapy, support groups, faith, family, or other tools. Setbacks may happen but that is ok, it's part of the process.
  • Recovery is about your whole life
It's about your mind, body, spirit, and people around you. To heal, you may need help with things like taking care of yourself, finding a safe place to live, getting a job or going to school, and seeing doctors, counselors, or dentists. You might also need support with your faith, hobbies, transportation, or staying connected to your community. All of these services should work together to help you feel better and move forward.
  • Recovery does need to be done alone
Those who've been through similar struggles can support you, share what helped them, and remind you that you belong. Support groups and peer programs can help you feel connected and stronger. Helping others can also help you in your own recovery. Professionals like doctors and counselors can help guide your way. If you're younger, support from family is very important.
  • Relationship matter in Recovery
Having people in your life who care and believe in you helps you heal. We encourage you to connect with loved ones, join groups, and building positive friendships.
  • Your culture mattes in Recovery
Your values, traditions and beliefs shape who you are and how you heal. That's why your care should respect your background and be tailored to your unique needs. We're here to support you in a way that feels right for you.
  • Healing from trauma is part of Recovery
Many people in recovery have lived through hard and painful experiences. We use trauma-informed care to help you feel safe supported, and in control.
  • You, your family, and your community all play a role in Recovery
You are not alone. Families and communities can offer strength, support and opportunities. WE also believe in your ability to speak up for what you need an help others along the way.
  • Respect is key to Recovery
We treat everyone with dignity and fairness. Your story matters, and your courage to seek help deserves respect.

Our Core Values

  • Services are individualized - All patients come into treatment for different reasons and at different levels of readiness to change; treatment is tailored accordingly. Services are patient centered, taking into account the preferences of the individual and based on a partnership between the individual and provider. Interventions will be sensitive to the individual's readiness for change.
  • Services are recovery focused - Services convey a sense of hope, validate the individual's life experiences, and encourage full participation in family and community life. Recovery is possible; we recognize that recovery is a lifelong endeavor that requires ongoing support beyond formal treatment.
  • Substance use disorders are usually chronic conditions - Substance use disorders are most accurately seen as chronic conditions that respond best to a system of ongoing services and supports.
  • Persons with substance use disorders are entitled to dignity and respect - Like those with other chronic conditions, both physical and mental, people never choose to become sick. Persons with substance use disorders usually think poorly of themselves, and are often treated poorly by others. In our facility, those with substance use disorders are treated in a manner that communicates their worth as a human being and that values their experiences, preferences and opinions. We educate and advocate for our staff to encourage and uphold the dignity and respect for those with Substance Use Disorders
